Events From the 2018-19 School Year

Awards Banquet

On May 1, 2019, cadets attended the Annual Awards Banquet where the 2018-2019 cadets were awarded for their hard work and dedication to their community, their nation, and MI-20141. Special Guests of honor attended and presented national awards to our cadets. The program also held the Changing of Command Ceremony where C/ Canfield handed over position of Group Commander to C/ Goodwin. 

Military Ball

On Saturday 16 March, 2019, cadets and their guests attended HHS AFJROTC's annual Military Ball. Cadets walked in through sabers, then enjoyed a fun night with dinner, dancing, and fun with friends and fellow cadets. 

Howell Drill Meet

Drill teams from different schools/ROTC programs, joined at Highlander Way Middle School for the Howell AFJROTC Drill Meet on Saturday 2 February, 2019. Howell won 1st place overall!

​Lock-In

On Saturday 26 January, cadets met at the Howell High School field house for a night of games, swimming, sports, and fun at our annual Lock-In

VA Hospital

Cadets met at Howell High School on Thursday, 20 December, and drove to the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor to hand out Christmas cards, and play bingo with the Veterans there. 

Wreath's Across America

On Saturday, 15 December, 2018, cadets joined on national Wreaths Across America Day to help support the Livingston County program. 

Room Decorating

Cadets joined after school in the AFJROTC room, on Monday, December 3rd to help decorate the room, put up our Christmas tree, and help to spread holiday cheer. A huge thanks to all the cadets that came to help!

Veterans Day

Howell High School honored Veterans on November 12th with an assembly hosted by the Leadership class. The guest speaker was retired 1st Lt James Rutherford, US Army who talked about the Veterans Creed.
Lt Rutherford introduced Cadet Nissa Legallee who wrote him thank you letter that was handed to him on Veterans Day, November 11th,  during the downtown ceremony. Unbeknownst to her, she was asked to read the letter to the audience.
The AFJROTC Color Guard presented the colors while the National Anthem was sung by the choir. The HHS band played patriotic music honoring the occasion. AFJROTC cadets we’re proudly represented in both the band and choir.
  Howl-O-Ween 

​Howl-o-ween was a success! We had a lot of cadets show up and pass out candy to kids at the Howell Nature Center!


Cadet Challenge 

Congratulations to the Cadet Challenge team for placing 1st at our First Annual Howell Cadet Challenge. This event was organized and ran by cadets. Thanks to all the cadets who volunteered to make our event a success. Big thanks to the Air National Guard and Army recruiters who judged each event.

Movie night!

30+ cadets gathered to watch the movie “The Right Stuff” and enjoy pizza, popcorn, chips and cookies.

MTU CIA Trip 

4 cadets had the opportunity to tour Michigan Tech and visit the AFJROTC unit. We also ran into alumni from MI-20141. 

CyberPatriot

  Cyberpatriot did an amazing job this week, team A got 155 points out of 200! cant wait to see how far both teams go this year 

Adopt-A-Highway
September 23rd 2018
We had 20+ cadets show up for Adopt-A-Highway! cadets spent the day gaining community service hours, picking up trash and drinking icies!  

Homecoming Parade
September 20th 2018 
We had an amazing turn out for the homecoming parade! A few of our cadets even got to ride in the National Guard's Humvee! 

Air Force Birthday
September 18th 2018
Cadets Peddie, Poertner, Mack and Greenwood painted the schools rock for the Air-forces 71st birthday!

What a Great day for a fall cadet kick-off at Halfmoon State Park. Our first big social event of the year to give cadets the opportunity to meet each other! We’re looking forward to a great year with this awesome group of cadets!!
