AFJROTC Mission:
Developing Citizens of Character
MI-20141 Mission:
To benefit our school, local community, and nation while promoting a sense of community within the unit.
About Us:
Howell established our Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in 2014. There are currently 118 cadets enrolled in the Howell High School AFJROTC (MI-20141) program this academic year (2024-2025).
Howell HS uses a block schedule divided by “Odd’, “Even” (85 mins classes), and “All Days” (~50 mins classes) which correlates to the class hour (1,2,3, etc.) assigned. Cadets wear OCPs on their assigned school day once a week. On alternating weeks cadets learn Areospace Science and Leadership Education and participate in Physical Training and drill. PT normally takes place in the field house, on colder days, and outside, on warmer days, every other Thursday (Odd day) or Friday (Even day). PT consists of stretches/warm-up, and a workout, followed by a fun game. Senior Reinhart teaches drill on alternate weeks from PT in the field house. Cadets wear Blues Uniforms for the units special events. Cadets are issued PT, OCPs, and Blues uniforms at the beginning of the year by their flight logistics team.
AFJROTC is not just about in-class instruction. In this program, cadets are expect to put in an average of about 12 hours of community service. We also have quite a few co-curricular activities inside of AFJROTC, such as Drill, CyberPatriot, Cadet Challenge, StellarXplorers, and Raiders. In addition to co-curriculars and community service, cadets also get the opportunity to participate in many events within our program like our Combat Dining-In, Bataan Death March, and Military Ball. We even have a tutoring program, Kitty Hawk Honors Society (KHHS) led BY cadets FOR cadets. All community service, co-curriculars, and events are led by cadets and are held outside of the school day.
AFJROTC is a program built on the foundation of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence In All We Do. We strive to develop a sense of responsibility and character in our cadets and to provide them with the opportunities to improve their leadership skills. For their hard work, cadets can earn ranks, promotions, awards, and staff and leadership positions.
We are a family here in MI-20141, and we'd love for you to be apart of it.
